Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation and is the sacrament through which we become members of Christ and his Church. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments” (CCC 1213).
Through Baptism we:
Are freed from sin
Are reborn as sons and daughters of God
Become members of Christ
Are incorporated into the Church
Are made sharers in the Church’s mission
If you are looking for information on infant baptism, see below, but if you are seeking baptism for yourself or another individual over the age of seven, please contact Beverly Ketchel, b.ketchel@nool.us for more information.
If you are in need of an emergency baptism, please contact the parish office at 303-469-5171 to see if a priest is available, and if you have performed an emergency baptism, contact Bridget Fross, at b.fross@nool.us so she can update our records.
BAPTISM AT NATIVITY
Whether you are expecting or have a newborn baby, we invite you to attend our baptism class and partake in the sacrament here at Nativity. It is important to ensure that your child is baptized as soon as possible after he or she is born.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
One Class
Parents and Godparents are required to attend one class in preparation for their child’s baptism, during which they will learn about the sacrament and its effects, will be assisted in choosing godparents, and will be adequately prepared for their child’s reception of the sacrament.
Classes are typically held on the third Thursday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Parents are expected to arrive at 6:45 pm to sign in and take care of the necessary paperwork.
Q. It’s my second child; do I need to attend the class again?
A. Our baptism class is good for two years. If you have not attended our class in the past two years, you must attend again.
Godparents
Parents are to choose one or two individuals (godmother and/or godfather) to serve as sponsors for their infant. The role of the sponsors, or godparents, is to help the baptized person live a Christian life and faithfully fulfill its obligations.
Sacrament
At Nativity, we usually celebrate baptisms on the first and third Saturdays of the month at 11:00 am. This is our typical schedule, although there are some exceptions. Working with Bridget Fross, you will be able to find a day that works best for you and your family.
